A 37-year-old gold miner from Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, has been sentenced to more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to obtaining money by false pretence.
Alex DaGuair appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 19, 2026.
DaGuair was charged with Obtaining Money by False Pretence, contrary to Section 194 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act.
He was arrested on June 18 and charged the following day. The charge was read to DaGuair, who pleaded guilty.
Following his admission, the court sentenced him to three years and five months’ imprisonment.
