EARLIER this month, the Ministry of Housing wrapped up the first Dream Realised Housing Drive for 2026 at Rosignol, Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), bringing hundreds of families closer to owning their own house.
Over 900 house lots were allocated within the Tract ‘A’ Hope and Tract ‘A’ Waterloo Housing Developments, while more than 250 Certificates of Title were distributed, providing beneficiaries with greater security and peace of mind, according to the ministry.
Each lot allocated, and each title issued represents new beginnings, future homes, and opportunities for families to build lasting legacies.

Through the housing drive, Sharon Jaggot, a mother from Region Five, has moved closer to home ownership, thanks to the Cement and Steel Initiative that was introduced by the government in 2023.
Jaggot, in a video posted on Facebook by the Ministry’s Central Housing and Planning Authority said, “I will be using this voucher to assist me with building my home- to start it.”
The young mother said this initiative is a great one, as it caters to young people who are just starting out on their own. “This is like an aid to get the basic stuff, like the cement,” Jaggot said.
Hansraj Persaud is another resident who benefitted from the housing drive. Persaud was able to uplift his transport, a milestone he said would allow him to not only build a house but own it.
The Ministry of Housing is accelerating Guyana’s housing development, designed to implement national housing and settlement policies through an efficient, well planned, coordinated and structured framework.
The ministry was allocated $159.1 billion to housing development for 2026, in this year’s National Budget, with the aim of accomplishing the continued development of new and existing housing areas, allocating 15,000 more house lots across all income categories, particularly in areas such as Moleson Creek, Providence, Vryheid’s Lust, Leonora and Charity, facilitating the construction of a further 8,000 homes in key areas, and issuing over 7,000 titles and transports, which will allow property owners access to collateral for mortgage loans and provide security of tenure.
