Deshaun Garrick was a good role player for QC with 8 points and 7 rebounds, with Liam Bart
adding 8 points in the win.
On the losing side, Tutorial High had 10 points from Keion Lynch and 9 points from their top
scorer Julian Charles.
Tournament MVP Darren Dublin says that chemistry will be key as they look to do well in the
National Schools Basketball Festival.
“It felt great; the team had been working hard through the whole year and last year, and
we made it to the regionals….. We’ve been working hard throughout the years to finally win
it this year.”
QC Head Coach Osafo Johnson says it was a long time coming, and they are grateful for the
regional title. He added, “This is probably our fourth or fifth appearance at the finals as a school, the last two times coming in second place, making it to regionals this year, forfeiting our first game, and losing one against St. Rose’s, coming back out strong, especially coming into the playoffs”
Meanwhile, in the third-place contest, St. Rose’s High thrashed the Bishops’ High 57-29.
It was an awesome performance from St. Rose’s with Shaquan Callender leading the way with 16 points.
Christian Williams was also fabulous on the offensive end with 16 points, while Bishops’ High’s top scorer was Kemol Pickering, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The regionals are sponsored by Edward B. Beharry Ltd., G-Boats Inc., the National Sports
Commission, the Ministry of Education, and Banks DIH Ltd.
