POLICE have arrested a 19-year-old mechanic after a Glock pistol was discovered during an intelligence-led operation at Hiawa Access Road, Central Rupununi, on Monday afternoon.
The operation was conducted between 15:45hrs and 16:45hrs after ranks acted on information received.
Police said three males were contacted at a ranch in the area and searches were carried out on their persons and belongings.
During the exercise, ranks searched a hammock in which the 19-year-old suspect was lying and discovered a Glock 26 9mm pistol along with an empty magazine.
The suspect, a mechanic and porter of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was arrested and escorted to the Lethem Police Station along with the firearm, which has since been lodged pending investigation.
He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
