MINISTER of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, on Tuesday, held talks with a high-level Brazilian delegation aimed at deepening co-operation between Guyana and Brazil in trade, agriculture and investment, as the two neighbouring states continue to expand bilateral ties.
The delegation was led by Director of the Department of Mercosur, Ambassador Francisco Cannabrava, and included Secretary of Economic and Financial Affairs, Ambassador Philip Gough, along with Brazilian Ambassador to Guyana, Ambassador Maria Cristina de Castro Martins.
According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture, discussions centred on strengthening collaboration in key economic sectors, particularly agriculture, where both countries have maintained longstanding partnerships through technical co-operation and joint initiatives.
Minister Mustapha underscored the importance of the relationship between Guyana and Brazil, noting that co-operation in agriculture has played a significant role in advancing local production and improving food security efforts.
He said continued collaboration between the two countries is expected to create further opportunities for agricultural development, investment and broader economic growth.
Guyana and Brazil have, in recent years, intensified co-operation in areas including infrastructure, trade facilitation, livestock development and technical agricultural support. The engagement also comes as Guyana continues to position itself as a major regional food producer under broader Caribbean food security initiatives.
Brazil remains one of South America’s largest agricultural economies and has been an important partner in supporting agricultural innovation and knowledge sharing across the region.
