THE City Constabulary on Thursday clamped several vehicles parked on pavements in Georgetown, after motorists ignored a public warning to desist from doing so.
On Wednesday, the Mayor and City Council issued a press release warning citizens of Georgetown that parking on pavements within the capital city is strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, the council reminded citizens that pavements are intended for pedestrian use, including persons living with disabilities, children and the elderly. It was emphasised that parking on pavements is considered an obstruction and hazard, forcing these persons to walk on the busy roads.

“Further, the Municipal and District Councils Act, Chapter 28:01, Sections Nine and Ten state ‘’it shall not be lawful for any person to ride or lead any animal or ride or wheel a bicycle or drive a vehicle, or push any hand-truck, wheelbarrow or other vehicle other than a perambulator containing a child along a pavement or footpath… on the pavement or foot path, and no person shall leave, place, or store or cause to be left placed or stored, any vehicle, cart, dray, barrel, box, dustbin, tree trunk… or other thing upon any street, parapet or pavement…,” the release that was published on the council’s Facebook page said.
Further, the council stated that it would appreciate the co-operation of citizens in adhering to the law by parking in a manner that is safe for vehicle owners and other categories of road users.
