The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is moving to strengthen the delivery of key welfare programmes, as efforts intensify to address delays and improve service to beneficiaries.
On Monday, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Vindhya Persaud, met with staff of the ministry to review gaps affecting the efficient distribution of Senior Citizens’ Pension, Permanent Disability, and Public Assistance benefits.
The meeting focused on identifying challenges within the system and implementing measures to ensure that persons in need receive their support in a more timely and reliable manner.
As part of these efforts, the ministry is advancing a new system designed to reduce the time it takes for beneficiaries to access their payments. Authorities say the initiative is expected to streamline processes and improve overall efficiency.
Minister Persaud emphasised the importance of accountability and transparency in managing public assistance programmes, noting that staff must be properly guided to uphold these standards. The push, she indicated, is aimed at ensuring that services delivered to the public meet a higher level of efficiency and responsiveness.
Also present at the meeting were Permanent Secretary Erica Forte and other senior officers, who are expected to play key roles in overseeing the implementation of the improvements.
The ministry’s intervention comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance social protection systems and ensure that vulnerable groups receive timely and effective support.
