‘Nothing of substance’ –contractor dismisses Mohamed’s ‘inaccurate’ claims on Golden Grove pump station project

A CONTRACTOR for Platinum Investments has firmly rejected allegations made by Azruddin Mohamed regarding delays, cost inflation and improper practices at the Jimbo pump station project at Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

 

The pump station contract, awarded in mid‑2023 to Raj Golyn of Platinum Investments, carried an 18‑month timeline, suggesting completion in 2025. The United States-sanctioned parliamentarian has claimed the project is significantly overdue and beset by mismanagement.

 

While acknowledging setbacks due to material sourcing issues and adverse weather, Golyn maintained that all delays were properly managed through approved extensions, and insisted the works remain on track under a revised schedule.

 

Golyn also challenged widely circulated figures about the project cost. A figure of $989 billion, later referenced as $9 billion, was described as “clearly inaccurate”. He stated that the actual contract sum is $795,308,480, and that higher figures being aired in public are misleading.

 

Responding to concerns over health and safety, particularly the handling of tombs found on site, Golyn said all protocols had been followed “to the T” in consultation with the Ministry of Health, the Public Health Department and local residents.

 

He stressed there had been “not a single defection” in compliance and that no remedial works were required, as the project has adhered strictly to the ministry’s pump station design under constant oversight by consultants and ministry officials.

 

“I’ve seen this as a personal attack on me and my company, because there’s nothing of substance that Mr. Mohammed has said concerning this project, because everything has been followed,” the contractor said.
