Human Services Ministry ensures safety of woman, children seen in viral clip

THE Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has taken note of a video circulating on social media showing a woman, reportedly of unsound mind, at Puruni Landing in Region Seven with her children.
The ministry, through its 914 hotline, received an anonymous report on this matter a few days ago, indicating that the woman had been residing at Laing Avenue, Georgetown, and was subsequently put out of the home where she had been staying.
Upon receiving the report, immediate action was taken by our Childcare and Protection Officers, who quickly established contact with a relative of the woman.
The relative, who had offered temporary shelter, was advised to bring the woman to the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) at the earliest opportunity so that urgent assistance and support services could be provided.
However, before this could be facilitated, the ministry was informed that the woman had left the residence with her children without the knowledge of her relative.
The ministry, working closely with its partners, continued efforts to locate her to ensure her safety and that of her children.
“As of right now, the ministry can confirm that the woman and her children have since been safely located by the Guyana Police Force at Puruni Landing. She is currently being assisted and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation at a medical facility to ensure she receives the care she needs,” the ministry said.
The CPA, the ministry said, will continue to work closely with the mother and her children to provide ongoing support, ensure their safety, and act in their best interest.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to swift intervention, coordinated action, and compassionate support for all vulnerable individuals and families.
