TORONTO’S Mayor Olivia Chow was a special guest last Sunday when the Empowered Life Church marked a historic milestone for the church and community with the launching of Hope Hub, a community-care initiative, bringing hope to the Scarborough community through free meals, grocery support and other practical resources.
In a Facebook post, the members of the church, which is headed by Guyanese father/son combination of Pastors Joseph and Donnie Persaud, pointed out that they were truly honoured to have the mayor join them to cut the ribbon for the special occasion.
“Her presence meant a great deal to us, and her remarks highlighted the power of hope. We are grateful for the mayor’s time and for her ongoing commitment to strengthening communities across our city.”
The church also expressed special thanks to the officers from 43 Division, Food Basics, and The Avenue Restaurant for their strong support of the Hope Hub. “This vision is only possible through partnership, and we are grateful to be working together to strengthen our community.
“We intentionally launched Hope Hub on Resurrection Sunday, as the resurrection of Jesus offers hope beyond our present circumstances.
Pastor Donnie Persaud pointed out that he’s grateful that his wife Christina will have the opportunity to use her gifts and experience to lead the Hope Hub. “Thank you to the entire Empowered Life church family and our Hope Hub volunteers. We look forward to what God will do through this initiative as we serve our community with unconditional love and compassion.”
Hope Hub started its operations on Wednesday evening.
