—President Ali says, highlights mutual intention to enhance collaboration in environmental, agriculture services

Enriched with vast forests and biodiverse habitats, Guyana and Belize play a critical role in safeguarding regional and global ecological balance, President Dr. Irfaan Ali has said.

Addressing the Belizean National Assembly this morning, President Ali said the two states possess some of the Caribbean’s most diverse and valuable ecosystems, including extensive tropical forests, abundant freshwater resources and rich biodiversity that place them among the world’s most environmentally significant small states.

“Our two countries possess some of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems in the Caribbean, encompassing vast tracks of tropical forests, extensive fresh water resources and extraordinary biodiversity that places us among the world’s most environmentally significant small states. Our territories include critical habitats that support unique flora and fauna, provide essential ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration and climate regulation and sustain livelihoods through agriculture, forestry, fisheries and ecotourism,” President Ali said.

The President stressed that these assets carry global responsibilities, describing Belize and Guyana as “careful custodians of environmental heritage” whose preservation is vital to national development and global ecological balance.

President Ali also underscored the strong diplomatic ties between Belize and Guyana, saying they are united by a shared colonial history, a common resolve to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity and a mutual commitment to democratic governance, dignity, stability and progress.

The Guyanese Head of State arrived yesterday in the Latin American state for a three-day state visit. Belize and Guyana have historically maintained strong and robust bilateral relations, grounded in a shared commitment to regional solidarity, sustainable development and Caribbean integration.
