POLICE are investigating the armed robbery committed on a 58-year-old Brazilian gold miner of 68 Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region # 7, which occurred on Boxing Day between 08:30 hours and 11:00 hours at the said address.
Preliminary information indicates that three masked English, Portuguese and Spanish-speaking males, dressed in camouflage and armed with firearms, arrived at the mining camp and held the workers at gunpoint before escaping with an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.
During the ordeal, several persons, including the 58-year-old, received injuries. A team of police ranks travelled to the location to conduct further investigations and efforts are ongoing to locate the suspects.
