COURTS inaugural Junior Lawn Tennis tournament launched

THE inaugural COURTS Junior Lawn Tennis tournament was officially launched yesterday in the showroom at the company’s main branch on Main Street.
The company injected $265 000 into the event which is what the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) needs to completely run the tournament.
Present at the simple handing-over ceremony was president of the GTA

and vice-president RameshaltSeebarran and Grace McCalmont, COURTS Marketing manager Pernell Cummings and the company’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kester Abrams.
Cummings said his company was very pleased to support the GTA since its staff members are firmly behind developing sports through grassroots levels, not only in tennis.
He noted that with this step, in the future a Guyanese may be a proud participant in a grand slam.
McCalmont, in her brief remarks said it was a very special moment for the GTA who worked hard to get juniors involved in the sport.
She said, “Without funding there is little that one can do and it is now nice to know that COURTS is making a direct contribution to the juniors so they can have their own tournament.”
Meanwhile, the tournament will be run on weekends at the Woolford Avenue tennis court for trophies and cash incentives until September 29.
