Assault case dismissed but reputed husband bonded

MAGISTRATE Judy Latchman dismissed a common assault charge against Dexter Pires yesterday, after his reputed wife declined to testify against him.

The defendant (no address given) had pleaded not guilty to the offence that charged him with having, on Thursday, September 5, unlawfully assaulted Shemika Henry.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, told the Court, on that day around 11:55 hrs, the virtual complainant arrived home and found Pires with a woman.
But, when she remonstrated with him about it, he became annoyed, choked and pushed her to the ground.
The prosecutor said Henry made a report to the police. However, when a confrontation was held between the parties, the defendant denied the allegation.
Nevertheless, Pires was placed on a bond to be on good behaviour for one year.
