Push cart operator remanded on theft charge

ROHAN Khan, charged with stealing a push cart, was remanded to prison yesterday when he made his appearance before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

The defendant, who said he lives at Meadow Bank Wharf, denied that he stole the cart, belonging to Patria Bharat of La Penitence Public Road, also in Georgetown, on Sunday September 1.
The 47-year-old Khan told the court that he works with the virtual complainant and assists her with anything she needs him to do.
He claimed he was doing an errand for her with the cart but police arrested and charged him with the offence.
Khan was refused bail after Police Corporal, Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, objected to the grant on the ground that the former has no fixed place of abode.
The case was postponed until tomorrow.
