RICE farmers on the Essequibo Coast are enjoying the sunny weather to harvest paddy from their fields and some 945 acres in the south from Aurora to Reliance and Lima are already harvested.

According to reports from the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) office at Anna Regina, the average yield per acre is 32.9 bags and some 32,950 acres that were sown are expected to be harvested.
Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department is currently grading and levelling access dams in the rice growing areas across the coast so farmers can quickly transport their paddy from field to factory.
The production from the 32,950 acres is expected to surpass the one million bags target. Millers are currently paying $4,200 for Extra A; $4,000 for A; $3,800 for B and $3,700 for C grade paddy.
