AMIDST mounting pressure for his resignation and, although there has been no report of discrepancies or major changes during the recount process,  A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) presidential candidate Aubrey Norton is seeking a forensic audit or fresh polls.

It was reported today that APNU agents were absent from the recount process.

In a letter penned to the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Claudette Singh, on Thursday,  Norton has alleged “egregious violations of the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the Representation of the People Act (Cap. 1:03).”

The letter seen by the Guyana Chronicle read: “ We are currently in receipt of various pieces of evidence demonstrating the gross dereliction of duties and negligence of Presiding Officers appointed by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM). These have been exacerbated by actions of GECOM, resulting in collusion, conspiracy, and deliberate abrogation of the will of the Guyanese people.”

Specifically, APNU alleged numerous inconsistencies with the Statements of Polls (SoPs), including allegations of unsigned SoPs by the Presiding Officers at Polling Stations and dereliction of duties by election officers.

APNU allegations come on the heels of the fact that the SOPs have been publicly uploaded to GECOM’s website and in order for its publication, this would have meant the requisite authorities would have signed off.

APNU claimed that said irregularities were brought to GECOM’s attention by APNU’s Assistant Agent (District 4 Sub-district 4), in the presence of local and international observer missions, during tabulation on September 2, 2025 and formed the basis for the request for recounts of certain districts of Regions Four (4) and Five (5).

However, all local and international observer missions have concluded that elections were free and fair in Guyana.
APNU is now demanding that GECOM halt the declaration of final results until a forensic audit of electoral data is completed.

Failing this, the party is calling for fresh elections to be held.

“Ultimately, APNU requests that you intervene immediately to direct the Commission not to declare the election results before the completion of a forensic audit of electoral data, including electors’ votes and/or order that fresh elections are now due, in light of the circumstances,” the letter read.
