The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has officially declared the results for the polling district of Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo (Region Nine), confirming a decisive win for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) at both the General and Regional Elections held on Monday.
According to the certified declaration signed by Returning Officer Carlos Melville on September 2, the PPP/C amassed 9,938 votes, comfortably defeating its rivals. The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party followed with 4,817 votes, while A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) secured 450 votes and the Alliance For Change (AFC) obtained 192 votes.

A total of 15,397 valid ballots were cast across the district, with 151 ballots rejected for various reasons, including the absence of an official mark, uncertainty, multiple markings, or voter identification. Additionally, 62 ballots were spoiled.
In the Regional Elections, the PPP/C also secured dominance with 9,853 votes, followed again by WIN with 4,794 votes. APNU registered 430 votes, while AFC earned 265 votes.
The district recorded 15,342 valid ballots at the regional level. A further 202 ballots were rejected, and 63 ballots were spoiled.
The declaration was signed and stamped by Returning Officer Carlos Melville, District 9, on September 2, 2025, and published by GECOM on their official Facebook account.
With this declaration, the PPP/C has officially secured Region Nine, maintaining its electoral stronghold in the hinterland district.
GECOM reminded that it remains the sole authority to declare official results, even as tabulation continues in other regions.
