THE African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) yesterday held its annual Prize-Giving Ceremony at which it presented several trophies to winners in various categories for outstanding performance during its Emancipation Festival 2013 at the National Park and other venues on August 1.
Winners of trophies, etc., in the ‘Best African Wear’ category, sponsored by Grace Kennedy (trophies, etc) and ACDA were:
* Ashford Glen – Best Dressed African Male
* Desiree Pistano – Best Dressed African Female
* Little Miss Beyonce and her dressed goat, Tasha – Best Dressed African Child.
In the category ‘Young, Gifted and Black’ (YGB) Performers, sponsored by ACDA, winners were:
* Shawn English – Best YGB Vocalist, and
* Mrs. Kamadiyah Yisreal – Best YGB Poet
Group Awards sponsored by ACDA (Gift Vouchers from Fogarty’s/Laparkan Department):
Copping the top prizes in that category were:
* Mystique – for the Best Costume ‘Hello Africa’ Parade
* Divine Stars – for the Best Creative Performance, under the theme ‘Mali Dogan).
Mali was the African country honoured this year for the International African Emancipation observances.
Three stalwart community activists were honoured for their initiative, drive, selfless and dedicated performance, way beyond what was expected of them within their communities, to make Emancipation observances a success.
Those women are:
* Coreen Tieshmaker – Group Leader from Vergenoegen (Active participation)
* Karen Hamilton – Group Leader from Plaisance (Active Participation)
* Patricia (Patsy) De Nobrega – for Active Participation
SPORTS COMPETITION AWARD
Meanwhile, for the Sports Competition Awards, the winners were as follows:
DOMINOES TEAM:
* Copping 1st Place was STARS who walked away with $60,000
* “ 2nd place was COBRA with $30,000
* “ 3rd Middle Road Warriors with $20,000
The Under-13 Football and Cricket teams scored as follows and were presented with trophies:
