![]() Should a few inconvenience and jeopardize the safety and security of the majority? The Stabroek Market Square is so congested that the safety factor of pedestrians, especially children, is severely compromised by stalls lining the roadways, forcing pedestrian traffic into the paths of vehicles. Many taxpaying businessmen complain bitterly about vendors who illicitly ply their wares at great inconvenience to commuters, leaving pile-ups of garbage in their wake to litter the streets and clutter and clog the sewerage and drainage systems. Many business owners also claim that some vendors serve as lookouts for choke-and-robbers and armed thieves, and also help to provide escape avenues to criminals. Could the civilian public hope that Minister Robeson Benn’s presence here (on Tuesday) heralds a surcease from the impediments that seem to have taken up permanent space on the public highways and pavements? |
