THE police are still on the hunt for a man whose name was given as Richard and who chopped his two children to death and seriously injured his wife on Wednesday afternoon.

Yesterday afternoon when this newspaper revisited the scene the relatives of the now hospitalised woman said that the mother of the children are not yet aware that her two children were killed in the cutlass attack on the family.
One sister explained that when she visited the hospital yesterday morning her sister was not speaking and was receiving treatment for her injuries which included a severed right arm and three fingers from her left hand. The woman was also taking oxygen.
The sister who spoke with this publication explained too that her sister questioned if the police were able to apprehend her reputed husband who carried out the senseless act and when she was informed that the police have not yet located the man, tears came to her eyes.
It was also reported that the woman who is still unaware of the death of her children advised that her sister take custody of her children temporality since she, the mother of the children were afraid that their father would return and take them into another village where he is originally from.
This publication was informed by the relatives that the woman also asked if her children were all right and relatives replied in the afirmative. She has not yet requested to see her children.
Another aunt told this newspaper that every time she travels from Essequibo to see the family the now dead five-year old would ask that she take them away from the home since she was afraid that one day their father will kill them all in the house.
The woman said that her niece related to her that every time her father gets upset with their mother he would usually pull the cutlass on them and was in the habit of threatening to kill them.
On Wednesday afternoon the man made the same threat before hacking his children to dead while his attempt to do the same to his reputed wife failed.
Yesterday the police returned to the home and conducted further investigations and questioned some persons in respect to what transpired on Wednesday.
During their investigations and a thorough search of the house, they were able to recover three of the fingers of the children’s mother which were severed during the attack.
When this publication ventured into the house yesterday the place was in a mess which suggested that there was a terrible scramble in the little all in one apartment.
There was thick blood stain in the house especially in a corner where the woman and her children huddled as they received their chops from the man on Wednesday even as her mother stood helpless outside of the home.
Blood was also spattered on the walls of the house which are made of zinc. Evident also was blood beneath the house which flowed from the upper flat as the children and their mother bleed as a result of their chop wounds.
The family is planning to bury the children tomorrow afternoon providing relatives who are travelling from the interior locations make it to the family home in time.
Yesterday the grandmother of the children and their aunts approached a religious leader in the community to seek assistance with the burial of the children and he promised to offer that assistance.
On Wednesday evening 21 year old Bibi Nazarena Houston and her two children, five year old Kimberly Houston and two year old Tarif Lord were rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital after they received severe chop wounds about the body by their father he has been sharing a common law relationship with their mother for the past seven years.
The children were pronounced dead on arrival while Bibi Houston was admitted for the wounds she sustained even as their assailant went into hiding.
The incident occurred at lot 867 brother dam Squatting area Zeelugt East Bank Essequibo.
On Wednesday night when this newspaper visited the home the relatives of the dead children and now hospitalised woman were gathered in shock in the home of the children’s grandmother.
We were told that that it all started when her sister decided on Friday last to remove from the home she shared with the man since they were having some problems.
However the woman would later return and decided to go to the welfare department on Wednesday, a decision that the man thought was a good one and reportedly accompanied the woman.
It was when they returned home that they began arguing and fighting in the house in the presence of the children.
The woman’s sister added that the five-year old then came and inform them that they should call the police since her father said that he was going to “kill all ah we”.
It was then that Bibi mother went over to the home of the couple and told the man that she wanted no one to kill anyone in her yard. By that time the man had already recalled his five year old daughter into the home and secured the children and his reputed wife in the house.
His mother-in-law after realising that he seemed serious about his threat decided to call the police and the moment she placed the call the man began chopping up the children and his reputed wife.
When the children’s grandmother was finally able to get the door open, the man pushed her from the landing of the house and ran into a coconut farm located a short distance away. He had also promised to hang himself.
When the woman entered the home she realised that the children were lying next to their mother covered in blood as she sat in a semi-conscious state. It was only after a resident and his family came over to the house that they realised that the children were dead.
Relatives at first when they heard the commotion in the locked house after the man said that he was going to kill the family, they thought that he was broad siding the woman but only learnt that she was being chopped after she cried out that her hand was chopped.
The police are continuing their search for the man and residents of the community have also joined in the search for the man.
