Armogan outlines aspects of Region 6 capital works

A REINFORCED concrete bridge is, currently, under construction at Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam, in the vicinity of the Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Office. The project, under the 2013 Capital Works Programme, is being executed by contractor Anirud Ramcharitar, at a cost of $3,310,040.
Regional Chairman, Mr. David Armogan, said a tube will be placed at the bottom of the overpass to ensure that there is an effective flow of water in the trench that runs parallel to Republic Road.
“Previously, we had a wooden structure beneath the stretch of road that runs over the trench and it collapsed, which resulted in the stagnation and overflow of water onto the roadway during the inclement weather,” he explained.
Armogan said, when the erection is completed, there would be less flooding along the Vryman’s Erven access road since the flow will be smooth and drain to the South of New Amsterdam.
“We would also be addressing the collapsed structure at the access road that leads to the National Insurance Scheme office. That area has been in a pretty bad shape for a while now and we are looking to rectify the situation,” he said.
Armogan said, this year, Region 6 RDC will be spending $380M on its Capital Works Programme for projects from Orealla to East Bank Berbice.
