NATI lecturer laments $700,000 home burglary

BHADESH Mohabeer, 36, a lecturer at New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) is now lamenting his losses from a burglary at his Garrison Road, Fort Ordnance home also in Berbice.

Balturglars broke into the house Tuesday evening and carted off booty valued about $700,000.
According to the educator, who resides in the NATI Number 8 building, at 18:00 hrs on Tuesday, his wife, Bibi Zalima and two children left to attend the New Amsterdam Mosque and he proceeded elsewhere.
He said his wife returned home at 20:40 hrs and, as she climbed the front stairs, she, immediately, observed that three louvre panes were missing from a window and she alerted neighbours and contacted him by telephone.
Mohabeer said when he arrived back home, he saw the front door ajar and, on pushing it and going inside, he noticed bags, a table and wardrobe had been ransacked.
Their 51-inch LG TV, a laptop in bag with flash drives and silver jewellery with gold plating were gone too.
Mohabeer said he made a report to the Central Police Station but it was not until he visited the precinct that a patrol responded 25 minutes later.
He said detectives visited the scene on Wednesday and did fingerprinting.

TAKEN ABACK
The distraught man said that he is taken aback by the fact that a security guard stationed at the Physiotherapy Department of New Amsterdam Hospital, opposite his house, did not see any strange movements.
“I guess people will not be worried about things that they are not paid to overlook. I am shocked and depressed at this situation. My television set alone is worth US$2,500,” he said.
Mohabeer said the laptop which his family overseas purchased for US$1,100 and the bag and flash drives are used for important work.
He added that he cannot even put a value yet to the lost of forty pennyweight of silver and gold jewellery.
Due to the inclement weather, Mohabeer was compelled to fix his window through which the thieves gained entry.
Although he has little hope of recovering any of his property, he is appealing to the public to be on the lookout for any person or persons who may attempt to sell the booty.
