Identified defendant in robbery refused bail

JOSHUA Meredith of Lot 184 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was refused bail and remanded to prison on Wednesday, after being charged with robbery under arms.

In front of Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who denied him pre-trial freedom, he pleaded not guilty to having, on Wednesday, July 3, at Hope and Water Streets, also in the city, being armed with a gun and together with others, robbed Elson Nedd of his gold jewellery valued a total of $135,000.
Police Sergeant Burgette Grant, prosecuting, said the incident occurred at 12:50hrs when the virtual complainant was standing at the roadway and was attacked by three identifiable males, of African descent.
The prosecutor said, the following Sunday, the defendant was seen and questioned by the police, who placed him on an identification parade where he was identified, by the virtual complainant, with the two others who had robbed him.
The prosecutor, successfully, objected to pre-trial freedom for Meredith, pointing out that, if the 19-year-old was allowed, he will, most likely, not return for his July 24 next appearance.
