Miner remanded on malicious wounding charge

A GOLD miner accused of unlawful and malicious wounding was remanded to prison yesterday, by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

Particulars of the offence said Merwin George, 30, attempted to disfigure, maim or cause actual bodily harm to Dellon North when he chopped him on July 7.
The defendant (no address given) is alleged to have committed the crime at Arakaka Backdam but he pleaded not guilty.
Police Sergeant Burgette Grant, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant is currently hospitalised but the incident occurred about 15:30 hrs that day when the two men were in a shop consuming high wine.
The prosecutor said they became involved in an argument about a woman and the defendant took a cutlass and dealt North, chops to the side of his neck and his wrist and fled the scene, leaving the injured man nursing gaping wounds.
North was air-dashed to the city and admitted to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he remains.
Bail was refused on the grounds of that, the virtual complainant is hospitalised and the seriousness of the crime.
The case has been transferred to Matthews Ridge Court, also in North West District, to be called, again, on August 6.
