TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Nicolai Kissoon, of Lot 60 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was, on Thursday, granted $75,000 bail on a drug charge.
Before Magistrate Ann McLennan, he pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, that same day, he was in possession of six grammes cannabis (marijuana).
Police Corporal Bharrat Mangru, prosecuting, made an unsuccessful objection to bail, citing the penalty attached and pointing out that no special reason for the grant was advanced.
The prosecutor also mentioned that the defendant accepted ownership of the substance and may be a flight risk.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. George Thomas, for the defence, claimed that Kissoon has no previous conviction and was among six persons occupying the premises where anyone can go in and out at anytime.
The lawyer argued that there is no identification card to prove that the substance belongs to Kissoon and the claim that he may not return for trial is only speculation.
However, the father was allowed pre-trial liberty until July 31.
