Septuagenarian committed to stand trial for murder

SEVENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Donald Mapp, was, on Monday, committed to stand trial for murder at the next criminal sessions of the Demerara Assizes.
The septuagenarian is charged with the unlawful killing of Winsel Roger Edwards called ‘Buck’, at Tucville, Georgetown, last February 15.        The committal followed a preliminary inquiry (PI) that lasted four months before Magistrate Judy Latchman, who found there was enough evidence to commit the accused.
That was after defence counsel, Simone Morris-Ramlall had made a no-case submission and Police Sergeant, Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, responded.
In the case, first called before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Mapp is alleged to have fatally stabbed Edwards in the chest with a knife and the latter was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
