Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation treats inmates of Dharm Shala in Berbice

THE Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation delivered its Fifth Annual Father’s Day treat to inmates of the Dharm Shala at Fort Canje in Berbice last Saturday.

altEach male inmate received a gift, meals and a haircut; while the females each received meals.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, president of the organisation, Pandit Deodat Persaud, said this annual feature is a way of bridging the gap between the young people and elderly folks, by reaching out to the elderly folks in a benevolent way. “It’s simply to bring comfort to the fathers here. They don’t have their children here to take care of them, so we are filling that gap by bringing cheer to them,” he noted.
Persaud said the Golden Om Dharmic Youth organisation is a socio-religious one which reaches out to all organisations in East Berbice, irrespective of their religious beliefs; and its members continue to work with other groups to assist in alleviating many of the problems in society.alt
“We are a voice for the young people in East Berbice. I know we have a far way to go in achieving our goals, so we continue to strive each day within our membership, along with other community-based groups, to bring comfort to people,” he added.
The Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation was established in 2005, and is the youth arm of the East Berbice praant of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha.
Based in East Canje, Berbice, the organisation is currently working to resuscitate the Vocational, Educational and Dharmic Academy (VEDA) at Reliance, East Canje, which is expected to benefit youths throughout the community and further afield.
