Region 2 Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud has congratulated Adrian Westford of Sparta Primary School on the Essequibo Coast for topping the region at the recent Grade Six examinations.
Meanwhile, his twin brother, Alexander, also of Sparta Primary School copped a top place.
Speaking at Tuesday’s Regional Democratic Council (RDC) meeting, the Regional Chairman said the region did well at the exams and he commended the efforts of the other top students from Hampton Court, Charity, CV Nunes and Taymouth Manor Primary Schools.
Mr. Persaud said although the region’s top student was at number 54 and the second student at 154 on the national list, he was pleased with their performance.
The chairman said the gap between the national top performers and the regional top students were not much in terms of marks.
He told councillors that he was also pleased with the performance of Sparta Primary School and congratulated Headmaster Mr. Deodat Narine and the teachers. He also offered congratulations to the other headteachers and teachers of schools in Region 2 that have done well and produced top students at the exams.
Chairman of the Education Sub-Committee of the RDC, Mr. Rudolph Williams also joined with the Regional Chairman in congratulating the top students, especially the Westford twin brothers Adrian and Alexander of Sparta Primary School who both copped top places.He said the twins have made the region proud and it is the first time in history for the region that twin brothers have done so well at the National Grade Six exams.
Mr. Williams said the top performance of students is a result of the inputs by government into the education sector that is now showing great results across the country.
