FOOTBALL enthusiasts were treated to a one-of-a-kind party last Saturday evening at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), as the Rohan Khanai Stand was transformed into a full-themed Heineken Sports Bar when Heineken hosted a viewing party for the UEFA Champions League, followed by an after party featuring Lil’ Rick and Kwesi Ace.
ANSA McAL Trading Ltd Marketing Director, Troy Cadogan, said that the Heineken brand is an official sponsor of the UEFA Champions League, and as such, it is hosting similar events in other countries around the world and Guyana could not be left out.
Cadogan noted that he was a little worried about the weather affecting the turnout, but was pleasantly surprised with the number of persons who came to witness the grand finals.
He added that while this is the first of its kind in Guyana, and with the support received, Heineken will be looking to make the viewing party bigger next year, giving more people the chance to experience the event.
The entire area was carpeted in green and decorated with Heineken branding; while patrons enjoyed the game on 6×6 projected screens that were elevated to give everyone the opportunity to see their team play.
Heineken Marketing Assistant, Robert Hiscock, said he was extremely pleased with the support, and stated he will begin planning early for next year’s UEFA Champions League. He said a lot of work was done to make the event a reality, and he is happy with the comments he has been getting from patrons.
In true party atmosphere, fans celebrated their team FC Bayern Munchen’s win to infectious soca music, with live performances from soca sensation Lil Rick and up and coming soca star, Kwesi Ace.
Persons who attended the party were given a UEFA Champions League mugs, tee-shirts, caps, bags, and key rings.
