JUSTICE Brassington Reynolds who began a murder trial recently with a voir dire (a trial within a trial) yesterday ruled that the statement made to the police was voluntarily made and is admissible in evidence.
The voir dire was decided on after defence counsel George Thomas for accused Rudolph Williams complained to the judge that the statement was not obtained in accordance with the judge’s rules.
As a consequence of the ruling yesterday, the prosecutors Natasha Backer and Dhanika Singh will deliver their opening address to the jury when the substantive trial resumes on Tuesday.
Rudolph Williams is accused of the murder of Niomi Singh on Friday, May 1st 2009 in the county of Essequibo.
