After pathethic narrative … Single mother of four released on own recognisance

MAGISTRATE Fabayo Azore, yesterday, released a single-parent mother of four on her own recognisance, when she appeared in court on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Nadia Henry, 33, of Lot 1342 Cummings Park, East Sophia, Greater Georgetown, is alleged to have received a video game valued $8,000, rightfully owned by Melissa Hemraj.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the Court that, ranks acting on information, contacted the defendant and a subsequent search was conducted at her home. After questioning, she accepted that she purchased the article from a man on Sheriff Street, also in the city, for $8,000.
Henry pleaded guilty with explanation, stating that her main reason for buying the game is because she promised her son a gift for his excellent performance at school. She added that her other reason is to help relieve some of the domestic problems at home.
Relating a pathetic narrative, she begged the magistrate not to remand her to prison, because her former husband is incapable of taking care of their children. She added that she has a three-year-old whose sister refused to take care of her since she was adopted. The girl’s biological mother abandoned her when she was four months old.
“But she is my own baby and I love her,” Henry confessed to the Court.
She revealed that her divorced ex-husband continues to sexually exploit her even though she has a restraining order against him and the police have done nothing about her numerous reports.
The case will be called, again, on May 20.
