Taxi driver breaks arm when vehicle swerves into canal

GT Express taxi HB 1517 yesterday plunged into the canal at Middleton and Dennis streets in Campbellville, Georgetown, causing the driver to sustain a broken arm and several scratches and bruises about his body. The driver refused to give his name, but alleged that a blue pickup had braced him and caused him to swerve into the canal.

Eyewitnesses told this publication they did not see the accident occur, but heard cries for help coming from the canal; and saw, upon investigation, the driver trying to extricate himself from the canal.

One man who spoke anonymously with this publication said he had smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath while helping him to come out of the canal.

When this publication arrived on the scene, a relative of the driver was about to take him to the hospital. (Gabreila Patram)
