Speeding car kills eight–year old at Tain

A speeding hire car yesterday took the life an eight-year old in Tain, Berbice just outside of the University of Guyana (UG) Tain Campus. Dead is Dinesh Chand of Brothers Village, East Bank Berbice, who was also a student of Friends Primary School.

According to reports received by this newspaper, Chand was struck down by the speeding car at approximately 14:15 hours yesterday.
Reports are that his parents reside overseas and he lived with his grandparents.

The driver of the hire car is in police custody assisting with investigations. 
Meanwhile, as details of the accident are still emerging, hundreds of residents from Berbice and around Guyana yesterday observed a moment of silence in memory of Chand and offered prayers for his family at the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Berbice Praant’s East Indian arrival celebration at the UG Tain Campus.
