A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD old student of the Business School begged for a chance when he appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, in New Amsterdam on Tuesday, charged with drug possession.
The defendant, of Lot 47 Betsy Ground, East Canje, also in Berbice, admitted having one gramme of cannabis sativa (marijuana) when police apprehended him on March 28.
He said he was going to smoke portions of the prohibited plant but expressed regret over the incident, stating that he was not fully aware of the consequence.
The teen also told the magistrate that he is, currently, preparing for the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) test which is expected to commence later this month.
However, the court imposed a $3,000 fine on him and ordered that he perform three days community service at Reliance Police Station, Canje, between 14:00 hrs and 15:00 hrs.
