DREADLOCKED Darrel Dorsette also called ‘Fiah Lion’, of Lot 70 Number 53 Village, Corentyne, was put on $400,000 bail last Tuesday, after he pleaded not guilty to a drug trafficking charge before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Court.

The defendant who was, initially, denied pre-trial liberty following his first court appearance last month, is alleged to have had possession 163 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) for the purpose, on February 28 last, at Main and Pilot Streets, New Amsterdam.
Defence counsel, Ramesh Rajkumar, who made the application, said Dorsette was driving a vehicle of which he is not the owner. But a search of it revealed a tool box containing leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be portions of the hemp plant.
The lawyer said the defendant is a farmer who supplies the Demerara markets with vegetables.
The trial is scheduled to commence on May 10
