THE following message has been dispatched to His Excellency Xi Jinpin, President of the People’s Republic of China from His Excellency Donald Ramotar, President of the Republic of Guyana:

Excellency,

On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Guyana and on my own behalf, I extend deepest sympathy to the Government and

people of the People’s Republic of China on the tragic loss of lives and damage sustained as a result of the devastating earthquake which struck Sichuan Province over the weekend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chinese people at this time, in particular those families who have been affected in Sichuan Province and those who are involved in recovery efforts.
I am confident that with the courage and indomitable spirit of the Chinese people, your country will be able to overcome the effects of this tragedy.
