DAY two in this year’s Linden Amateur Basketball Association- organised Linden Secondary School Under-19 basketball championship produced another individual display where low-post player Aubrey Campbell may have recorded perhaps the highest-ever score at these championships. He put up 44 points for Wisburg, who crushed New Silvercity Secondary 80-30, while Linden Foundation downed Mackenzie High 24-14 as the championship continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court on Tuesday afternoon. For the second day straight fans saw a one-man show, this time by Campbell whose 44 points eclipsed the 42 by Christianburg/Wismar Secondary’s Travin Dryden, who the previous day knocked in 42 for his team in their 102-32 opening win against Linden Technical Institute (LTI).
It was the second day running where an individual score would have been recorded for what may be a scoring record in this dominant win by Wisburg. Akeem Powers supported well with 19 points and Taquille Saunders 17 for the winners who were leading at halftime 42-12.
Andie Carr netted 12 points to be the top player for New Silvercity Secondary as teammate Wayne Wilson added seven in that loss.
In the other game four-time champions Mackenzie High School were beaten in their opening game by Linden Foundation Secondary 24-14, following a 16-6 halftime score in favour of the winners.
Mackenzie High had climbed back into contention as they trailed 16-14 in the second half but they lost their way and were beaten by a 10-point margin in the end.
The tournament will continue this afternoon when Mackenzie High play Wisburg in the first game at 14:30hrs and in the second at 16:00hrs Linden Foundation Secondary and Linden Technical Institute clash.
Tomorrow, the tournament bounces off again as Christianburg/Wismar Secondary take on Wisburg and that game will be followed by the New Silvercity Secondary playing Mackenzie High.
