Porter refused bail on armed robbery charge

DINO Giddings, 36, a porter at National Hardware was remanded to prison yesterday, on a robbery under arms charge.

The defendant (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Tuesday, April 2, in Breda Street, Werk-En-Rust, Georgetown, being armed with an ice pick, he robbed Roy Simon of one Blackberry phone valued $50,000, a $65,000 gold chain, a gold band worth $54,000 and $10,000 cash, making a total loss of $179,000 to the victim.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat, for the defence, told the court that Giddings was at the wrong place at the wrong time and maintains his innocence.
When the lawyer made an application for pre-trial freedom in a reasonable sum, Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, said Giddings had been on $5,000 station bail.
However, the magistrate refused the grant and Giddings will remain on incarcerated through April 17.
Meanwhile, a summons was issued for the virtual complainant who was absent.
