For the past five years, the Roraima Group of Companies has been featuring at its annual Wedding Expo all of the ‘must haves’, the perfect dress according to each faith with elaborate illustrations. But this year the organisers decided to focus on the relationship that is being solidified.
Perhaps the most difficult emotion to describe, but the easiest to recognise, in the couple who symbolized the meaning of true love throughout this year’s Wedding Expo experience, are Albouystown sweethearts Rudolph Davis, who has been together with his fiancée Oshanie Waithe for 10 years.
The nerve-racking experience of this year’s Wedding Expo came to end on a quiet Friday evening with the announcement at a Cocktail Reception at the Duke Lodge in Kingston, held in honour of the four couples that had been shortlisted.
But then Rudolph, a taxi-driver had parked his car badly and a public address announcement sent him running to remove it, just as the announcement
was being made as to which couple will have their wedding hosted and catered and paid for.
His name was called and like a woman ready to take that leap, Oshanie held onto her man as his knees weakened and he dropped to the floor.
They had persevered and their love for each other outshone all for their genuine against-all-odds spirit; and in two weeks they will be wed at the Duke Lodge in Kingston, with an open invitation extended to the public as only part of their rewards.
Spearheading this year’s Wedding Expo, ‘The Race to the Altar’, is Chairman of the Group of Companies, Gerry Gouveia, and at the announcement ceremony, he reminisced on the elimination process that initially commenced with 15 couples.
He spoke of the fascinating experience of listening to real life stories and expressions of genuine love and sincerity in anticipation of a future together.
Gouveia said that with each day that passed, the task of selecting that one couple who would have their wedding at the Duke Lodge became increasingly difficult.
Roraima Club lifetime membership
As a result all of the finalists were awarded with lifetime membership to the exclusive Roraima Club.
“Every single one of these couples made it very difficult,” said Gouveia, as he spoke of each being deserving of a dream wedding.
Shamaine Davis, who also worked along with Gouveia side by side on the project, told those who had gathered that the event was designed to promote Guyana as a tourism spot for weddings.
There are wedding expos across the Caribbean, Davis noted, and in Guyana’s case, the team wanted to take it to another level, hence a real live wedding for the deserving couple.
Davis was one of the judges and spoke of her mixed feelings, given the relationship she had with the couples over the weeks of intense scrutiny.
With a honeymoon long before the wedding, Davis recalled the trip to Arrowpoint provided by the company, which was really meant to test the couples, in addition to the aerial tour a few days later.
