MAGISTRATE Judy Latchman, yesterday, recited one of the ten commandments ‘Thou shalt not steal’ to a convict before sentencing him to six months imprisonment. Roy Singh (no address given) pleaded guilty to simple larceny, admitting that, last February 11, in David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he stole one cell phone, valued $15,000, property of Lawrence Maurice.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, informed the court that the defendant was, recently, released from prison after serving time for failing to support his children.
The prosecutor said Singh had been cleaning a churchyard when he committed the larceny offence and told police he picked up the phone in a passage and sold it for $1,500.
