THE mixed Assizes jury, after deliberating for just under two hours in the Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice murder trial, returned an unanimous verdict of guilty against Ramesh Sahadeo called ‘Bobo’ last Friday. Subsequently, Justice Brassington Reynolds condemned the convict to death by hanging, for the unlawful killing of his fellow villager Darshanan Ramanan known as ‘Tato’, on September 20, 2009.
It was the second trial the prisoner faced within a year.
Presenting the case for the prosecution, state counsel Dionne Mc Cammon said, during the afternoon hours of that September 20 day, Vishal Dayaram called ‘Texas’ saw Ramanan seated on a concrete structure at Third street, Middle Dam, Bush Lot Village.
Dayaram, who was armed with a cutlass had, earlier, retraced his steps from the backlands where he stopped to speak with Ramanan.
Minutes later, the former departed and met with fellow villagers and the accused asked to borrow the cutlass, which he used to inflict the injury on the victim’s neck.
The wounded man was taken to Fort Wellington Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the court heard.
An autopsy revealed that death was due to shock and haemorrhage the incised neck wound.
Defence Counsel Raymond Ali was State assigned.
