Ansa McAl launches Mackeson Super-16 KO Futsal tourney in Linden

DISTRIBUTION giant Ansa McAl Limited yesterday flexed its corporate muscle under its Mackeson Stout brand giving 16 Futsal teams in Linden a chance to play in a lucrative tournament.

altThe event, run through the Amelia’s Ward United Football Club, will be played in a knock-out format, where the winning team will take home $250 000, second-placers $150 000, third-placers $100 000 and fourth-placers $40 000.
Amelia’s Ward hard court will host the opening ceremony on February 24 then on to the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) hard court on February 27.
The semi-finals and final are set for the MSC hard court on March 2.
Mackeson’s Brand representative Jamaal Douglas said that the competition is Ansa McAl’s way of giving back to the community of Linden for being very supportive of their brands over the years.
He said while speaking at the launching held at the LEND (formerly LEAP) Building to the media and players gathered that the entity is fully committed to see the area develop through sports.
Small goal football, as it is more popularly known, is overwhelmingly popular throughout Guyana hence Douglas is sure that the event will be keenly contested by the participating teams.
The tournament, Douglas says, is exclusively for Linden, when asked if the company will afford other players from other parts of Guyana the same as they have to the players from the mining town.
Patrick Dey of the Amelia’s Ward team who finished as runners-up in the recently held Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament, said that his club is happy to partner with Ansa McAl and Mackeson for the tournament which will be welcomed by the players of the sport in Linden.
Dey promised an action-packed event, making mention that the incentives offered are enough to bring out the best in players, especially since it’s a straight knock-out tournament.
Meanwhile, the company said that the event will be free to fans of the game and nightly giveaways are on the card, compliments of Mackeson.
