Two arrested, minibus impounded in Kuru Kuru fatal accident

POLICE have impounded a mini-bus and arrested two men who are assisting with the investigations following a fatal accident on February 8.

The accident occurred at about 16:30 hours on Friday when the driver of a mini-bus at First Creek, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, allegedly reversed the vehicle and struck Hilary Reeves, 61, of Kuru Kururu.
The driver went away after taking Hilary Reeves to his home, where he subsequently succumbed.
Police on Wednesday said there has been a 13% reduction in road fatalities for January 2013 in comparison to January 2012, with seven fatalities from six accidents in 2013 compared to eight fatalities from eight accidents during January 2012. The month of January also saw reductions in relation to the other categories of traffic accidents – serious, minor and damage.
So far, drivers of motor vehicles have been the main victims with four such persons having lost their lives in January. In addition, one pedal cyclist, one pedestrian and one passenger also lost their lives.
Speeding continues to be a major contributing factor to fatal accidents, causing all six fatal accidents recorded for January 2013.
Traffic enforcement by the police during January 2013 resulted in a total of 6,252 cases being made against errant motorists and of this total 1,800 cases were for speeding.
Four road fatalities have been recorded so far for the month of February 2013, from three accidents.
