FORMER national striker Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules will roll back the years when he was once Guyana’s most feared forward, as he takes to the court tonight for Team 25 as the inaugural Unique Entertainment/Banks Premium Beer Futsal tournament continues tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court in Linden. Hercules will form alliance with Quacy Johnson as they face off against BOSAI in the night’s feature of the four games scheduled.
Already, the tournament is enjoying massive crowd support by the community of Linden whose residents have embraced the shorter format of the game and tonight, another mammoth crowd is expected.
In the opening game from 19:00hrs, Gunners will collide with Phoenix while Kuru Warriors and El Dorado ‘A’ are down to play in the second.
Alister Johnson will lead another tournament favourite Hard Knocks ‘2’ against Classic. The other Hard Knocks team on the tournament’s opening night, had wowed the capacity crowd with a 19-0 performance over Sharp Shooters and their second unit team have promised to do better.
Meanwhile, the tournament continued last Friday when a total of 23 goals were scored in the four matches played while some tears were also shed after teams lost in some nail-biting encounters.
Penalty kicks were used to separate Silver Bullets from Fulham FC whom they defeated 3-2 after ending with the scores level at two when regulation and extra time had elapsed
We-Is-D-Boss also had to head to the penalty spot to overcome Spartans 4-3 in one of the most entertaining games of the night.
Retrieve Well Known got past Classic Six 3-2 and 100 Dollar Cars outclassed Juventus 4-2 to advance to the round of 16 which will start this coming weekend.
With the players’ eyes all focused on the tournament’s $500 000 first prize, the scores of persons turning up are being treated to some impressive Futsal.
The tournament which is set to conclude on February 17 will see the second place finishers carting off $300 000 and third-placers $150 000.
