THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday asked members of the public to assist and cooperate with them following the fraud which involves the sale of firearm licenses recently.
The police, in a press release asked that licensed firearm holders who purchased their firearms licences during August and December 2012, at the Brickdam Police Registry, to report to the Office of Professional Responsibilities (OPR) or the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The release said that financial irregularities have been uncovered at the registry involving the sale of firearm licences. This is being investigated by the OPR and the CID.
It noted that the record of firearm licences sold for this period has not been located.
The OPR can be visited on any working day, Monday to Friday, between 09:00hrs to 16:00hrs.
Police reported that on January 15, a female Lance Corporal attached to ‘A’ Division Registry Section was placed under open arrest after a fraud was uncovered involving the sale of firearm licenses.
