BUSINESSMAN David Sattaur, of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, is partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture on a clean-up campaign across Georgetown.
The foreman/supervisor on the job, Bhagwandin Mohan, in a brief interview with the Guyana Chronicle yesterday morning while workers were in the process of cleaning Laluni Street, Queenstown, said the initiative, to make the city a more presentable place, is sponsored by Mr. Sattaur with the assistance of Agriculture Ministry workers.
Mohan said the exercise began yesterday and will continue through January 18, pointing out that the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) has nothing to do with it.
He disclosed that approximately 400 ministry employees have been deployed to assist with the project in various areas of the city, all with the aim of enhancing the capital and making it litter free.
The labourers are also engaged in cleaning the drains to ensure that there will be proper drainage, as there was a build-up of garbage and weeds stopping the flow of water which, if not cleared, may result in flooding.
Drainage and irrigation workers, mainly from the East Coast of Demerara, were brought to Georgetown because the city is in an unacceptable state, Mohan declared.
