THE recent package of security measures outlined by the Minister of Home Affairs has received positive reviews by many responsible persons, agencies and stakeholders in this country. However, the parliamentary opposition post-haste declared its rejection of same, based not on the actual measures but on the premise that it was presented by Minister Rohee. The electorate voted their representatives to Parliament to treat with matters in the interest of the nation and not to engage in personal vendettas.
Is the Guyanese public so gullible that they will just tolerate personal battles in Parliament?
If the initial author(s) of the measures is/are from the opposition benches, then let the debate in Parliament bring it out and let the nation decide who deserves the plaudits.
In trying to shoot the messenger, let us not burn the message which, as some claim, they themselves initially crafted.
Let Parliament be the venue for mature deliberations in the interest of this nation,or else posterity will judge its work harshly.
