Threats and intimidation will not change the numbers

Dear Editor,
I have observed that the main political opposition continues to exhibit its ferocious racial and divisive tendencies. This political faction has no strategy for the upcoming Local Government Elections. We do not hear of any plans but only some of the saddest stories. The leadership is uninspiring and tribalist.

In my opinion, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic is the only logical choice for the upcoming Local Government Elections. The City of Georgetown and many of the opposition-controlled NDCs are grossly mismanaged and in need of a change of representatives.

The PNC-led APNU is cognisant that they will perform poorly in Local Government Elections in June 2023. This is because the people of Guyana have already rejected them at the poll in the Elections of 2020.

In the Local Government Elections of 2018, the PPP/C beat the combined coalition APNU+AFC whilst they were in government. In those elections, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic got a whopping 61 per cent of the votes cast.

The members of the opposition have urged the Guyanese people not to believe the numbers. Editor, numbers don’t lie. All across the country, the numbers are showing poorly for the opposition. To make up for this they have resorted to threats and intimidation as a means of getting backers of lists and candidates for the PPP/C to withdraw.

This is unfortunate and ought to be addressed by the relevant authorities.

Sincerely,
Ryan Newton
