BUXTON United skipper and national forward Dwayne Jacobs didn’t score a barrage of goals. As a matter of fact he only scored two in the entire tournament but his leadership and hard work ethics earned him a Toyota Allex as his reward, after being adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the just concluded 23rd annual Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament.
Jacobs led his side to their first-ever title in any tournament, after they defeated Amelia’s Ward via sudden-death penalty kicks shootout on New Year’s Day at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, following hot on the heels of their surprise 1-0 victories over BK International Western Tigers and Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United in their respective quarterfinal and semifinal encounters.
Tears flowed from his eyes when he was announced as the MVP given the fact that he was in contention alongside Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson of Pele and the Amelia’s Ward duo of Travis Watterton and Odel Allicock.
Jacobs will officially be handed his car tomorrow at a specially arranged presentation ceremony in Buxton, where other prizes won during the tournament will also be distributed.
